What can I add to plain white rice to jazz it up (besides butter & garlic salt / powder)?!

Question: What can I add to plain white rice to jazz it up (besides butter & garlic salt / powder)?
Sometimes I add sweet chili sauce, but other than that, I am outta ideas

Answers:

try cooking it in coconut water/coconut milk for coconut rice.

Why don't you cook it a different way.

Saute one medium onion, chopped, and 1*4 of a green pepper, chopped, in about 3-4 TBS olive oil, until tender, Add one cup of uncooked rice. Stir well to coat all the rice with the olive oil and vegetable juices. Fry for about 3 minutes over medium-high heat.

Pour in 2 cups of chicken stock, add 1/2 tsp Cumin, and 1/4 tsp Turmeric. Cover the pot and simmer for 15 minutes over medium heat.

That is about the best way to cook rice IMO.

If you are not a vegetarian, you can go all the way and make Arroz con Pollo, which is positively divine!

I always try to use stock or broth instead of the water, that right there makes a big difference. I also like to add some fresh herbs, basil being my favorite but you can use anything you like.

Rinse rice before you use it. This will remove any excess starch and prevent it from becoming sticky.

Add herbs (that you've already cleaned and chopped) to saucepan. Add rice and broth. Remember rice is always 1:2 ratio. 1 part rice to 2 parts liquid.

Bring to a boil over med-high heat, as soon as it comes to a boil cover and reduce heat to low. Simmer covered for 12-15 minutes WITHOUT uncovering. Barely peek at it and remove from heat when liquid is absorbed. Fluff with a fork and season to taste. DO NOT add salt at the beginning when you use broth or stock. Flavors concentrate as you cook and you could end up with a salt bomb. You can always add to but cannot take away salt from a finished dish.

Have fun playing with flavors...hope this helps : )

I have added a can of corn and it comes out real good. It's just to do something alittle different to the rice. Also I have a recipe a friend gave me...after rice is cooked add cooked bacon roughly chopped and add some sliced almonds. Now that will jazz it up ALOT! Yummo Enjoy! :0)

Cook it with broth instead of plain water.

Sauteed or caramelized onions. Real garlic.

Mix in various diced/chopped veggies pre-cooked or thawed/frozen.

Top with a little shredded cheese.

Make into Mexi rice, Spanish rice, or Fried rice.

peas, carrot shavings, prawn and a splash of soy sauce
or

chopped fresh coriander

or

Add egg to make egg fried rice

or

tiny pieces of chicken and some tinned sweetcorn kernals

or

boil up in a stock cube ( beef or chicken flavour)

or

chopped ham and onion

You can cook it in coconut milk instead of water only adding water when there isn't enough moisture.

Or you can add like canned tomatoes and beans to your rice. Or cut up mandarin oranges.

1)add honey and apples. 2)Teriyaki sauce/grilled chicken. 3)corn, bell pepper, tomatoes and italian seasoning.

I usually throw a teaspoon of powdered chicken boullion in with the water. For vegetable add-ins, the list is infinite.

Very finely chopped spring onions and tamari sauce.

I always use butter and tuna.

a can of petite cut tomatoes with garlic and olive oil

i would say if you like chicken boil the rice in a chicken broth. it will give it that chicken flavor.
delicious!
