What sort of rice cooker should I get?!

Question: What sort of rice cooker should I get?
I'm about to head off to college, and plan on buying a new rice cooker, but I know that the rice cooker like the one I have at home is pretty low quality. It's a Black and Decker and it frequently overcooks the rice. >.< I want to find a rice cooker that'll suit the average dorm-living college student's needs. Appliances are allowed in the dorms.

If you can afford it, a Zojirishi with fuzzy logic controls. Tiger also makes excellent ones.

Rice cooker brands are a plenty. I suggest you buy those manufactured by rice eating countries like those of Japanese, Korean, Taiwanese brands like Panasonic, LG etc. as they have this first hand knowledge of how to cook rice better.

The variety of rice used needs some kind of water measurements enough to cook it into a fluffy and nice eating steamed rice. A little of an inch of water on top of washed rice in the cooker's pan often would do the trick.

It will depend on your need. If you really like good quality rice, go for the higher end brands like Zojirushi or Tiger. Or if you can find an asian grocery store, they usually carry asian brand rice cooker, which are usually pretty decent (asian people do eat rice 3 times a day), and choose from the price range there. Good luck.

Maybe not the answer you are expecting but - do you really need to fork out for one?
Read Delia Smith's Cookery Course (and she adequately tells you how to 'cook perfect rice')
Believe me, it works.
Good luck at college btw.

Breville. Check the debenhams website.
