First of all...Crisco is NOT lard. Crisco is vegetable shortening. All icing made with powdered sugar and shortening is going to be sweet, but a basic buttercream recipe made with one cup butter, one cup crisco 2 lbs. powdered sugar and about 4 Tbs. of milk is a good place to start. A pinch of fine grained salt will cut the sweetness a bit.

i have no idea how to make it not sweet but the one i use is made with crisco veg and egg white.
this is the solid white crisco , powdered sugar, and egg whites. flavor of any kind can be used. because this is made with raw eggs it must be refrigerated.
since im old and seldom measure anything i cannot give amounts. unless you want things like a bag of powdered sugar, about 3/4 cup crisco, min of two egg whites depending on constituency wanted. flavor can change the color of icing so be careful of what and how much you use.
