Question: Does anyone have the chicken a la king recipe from the older better homes and garden cook book?
The recipe included pimentos, wine and lemon I believe and it said to serve on pastry corners (or something) or toast

1/4 C butter or margarine
1 C sliced fresh mushrooms or 1 four ounce can of mushrooms stems and pieces, drained
1/3 C all-purpose flour
1 3/4 C milk
! C chicken broth
2 C cubed cooked chicken or turkey
1/4 C chopped pimento
2 T dry sherry ( optional )
8 toast points or 4 baked patty shells

In a sauce pan melt butter or margarine. If using fresh mushrooms, add mushrooms and cook till tender. Stir in flour, 1/2 teaspoon salt 1/4 teaspoon pepper. Add milk and chicken broth all at once. Cook and stir till thickened and bubbly. Cook and stir for 1 minute more. Add canned mushrooms if using. Stir in cubed, cooked chicken or turkey, pimento and sherry if using..
Heat through and serve on toast points. Serves 4

Chcken a La King
Ingredients
1-1/2 cups loose-pack frozen mixed vegetables
1 cup water
1 tablespoon instant chicken bouillon granules
1 tablespoon white wine Worcestershire sauce, dry white wine, or Worcestershire sauce
1/2 teaspoon dried basil, crushed
1/8 teaspoon pepper
2 cups milk
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
2 cups chopped cooked chicken or turkey
4 frozen patty shells, baked according to package directions, with tops removed
Directions
1. In a large saucepan combine the frozen vegetables, water, bouillon granules, Worcestershire sauce or wine, basil, and pepper. Bring mixture to boiling; reduce heat. Cover and simmer for 5 minutes.

2. Meanwhile, combine milk and flour. Stir into vegetable mixture. Cook and stir until thickened and bubbly. Cook and stir 1 minute more. Stir in chicken or turkey; heat through.

3. Serve the chicken mixture in the patty shells. Makes 4 servings

quick or slow?
quick canned cream of chicken soup, left over chicken breast cubed, [or turkey ] package mixed veg. add milk to thin soup. serve over toasted cubed bread. i usually use toast and cube it. make a lot of toast because they like it.

long way make white sauce add chicken broth, chicken cubes, and mixed veg, no big deal just longer and more work.
