To me they are a fruit...

Botanically speaking, anything that has seeds is a fruit (hence why a tomato is a fruit).
Techinically, the banana tree is a giant herb, and the yellow thing you eat is the fruit of the plant.

In culinary terms, fruits are sweet, while vegetables are savory (hence why a tomato is generally considered a vegetable).



Banana is the common name for herbaceous plants of the genus Musa and for the fruit they produce.
