Question: How to make a layer cake?:)?
ok so tonight i'm going to make a 3 layer cake for this fundraiser for our band at my school. its tomorrow . the cake itself is going to be chocolate with white icing. here's my dilemma, i'm wondering. ok so if i get a cake mix, and 3 of the same size pans, will i still use the timing chart on the box? because theres going to be less batter in each pan. so if i follow the timing chart will i burn the cake D: ?? please help, and any other advice on make a 3 layer cake :)

Depending on the amount of time needed for 2 pans, I would definitely reduce the time by at least 8 minutes. Better to undercook the cake and bake it a few minutes longer then have a burned or dried out cake! If the box says 18-24 minutes for 2 layers, I'd reduce it to 10, then toothpick it, if it's not done, add another three, tooth pick it...etc...until the toothpick is clean.

No the time will reduce about 7 to 10 minutes. Start checking them about 18 to 20 minutes. Also about 10 minutes after you put them in, rotate the pans around for more even cooking. Usually the inside of the mans need to be rotated to the outside so the edges don't burn. Use the toothpick test or I use the spring back test. touch it with your finger tips in the center if it kinda springs back it should be ready. Just don't over cook it will be dry. You can add a a giant spoon of mayo or miracle wip to mae it very moist or a box of instant vanilla or chocolate dry pudding mix. I always add one or both to my boxed mixes.
