While the addition of the dill will give more depth of flavor, it's really not necessary. You can substitute fennel fronds, Italian parsely, chives, tarragon, rosemary, lemon zest, or any other herb you fancy. It will still turn out sensational.
This may sound weird, but it is a real solution: If you have any dill pickles, you can dice them up very small and use that. It will add a little tartness from the vinegar, but that's good with salmon. I'd use about 2 Tbs of diced dill pickle with salmon for 4-6.
Any herb will do: parsely, thyme, etc. or even a pinch of grated lemon rind.
