Chipotle peppers are dried jalapenos. They need to be dried, usually you leave them on the vine until they turn red.

So, if you went to the store and bought a ton of red jalapenos, sliced them, then smoked them, then you would probably be ok. If you took the green ones from a jar, then I doubt you will have success.



yes, if you have the ability to smoke them, they will become choipotle peppers, if they are whole or sliced.

they aren't necessarily dried, other than what happens during the smoking process, but they MUST be smoked to be considered chopotle
