How important is vanilla in this cake recipe?!

Question: How important is vanilla in this cake recipe?
While I was following the directions perfectly the recipe never said to put the vanilla in. I put the cake into the oven and began baking it. When I was looking over the recipe and ingredients, I realized that the directions never said when to put it in, so I didnt. I called my MIL (this is her recipe from an old cookbook) and she said she always put in the vanilla and never realized it (until now) that the cookbook obviously had an error. So... Should I rebake a whole new cake or will this one be ok? I am making this for my mothers bday tomorrow and will be icing it with homemade carmel icing. So it's a carmel apple cake.

Thanks!

I would guess that leaving the vanilla out would be okay. I make cake all the time and when I forget the vanilla they still taste good, and since you have carmel and apple and stuff if the cake is less vanilla-ey the other flavors should cover it up.

I wouldn't bother. All the vanilla does is that it adds some flavour.
It could be a bit bland if there are no other flavours added to the cake.
Depending on decorating, or the eating you could put on a very nice cream or as a filling, or even as a base to sit on in a pudding style.

Vanilla can help bring out some of the other flavors. Some chocolate dishes even have vanilla in them. It probably isn't a big deal that it is not in there, but how about maybe adding a little to the icing?

Chooooooooooooooo Cute baby...I wanna play with U first, orelse I will tell your mom that U R asking 4 vanilla cake recipe.........................hey wait wait wait.and keep on waiting 4 my advice.till then bye bye...........have a good time.

It should be fine but I'd put a little extra of the fluffy creamy icing stuff.
