Question: What can you do with vanilla beans other than creme brulee?
Answers:

bury one in a canister of sugar and make vanilla sugar for baking

split one or 2 and submerge in vodka, shake every day for a week and leave for 6 weeks
your own vailla extract



HOMEMADE KAHLUA


4 c. sugar
2 oz. instant coffee
2 vanilla beans, cut into 1" pieces
4 c. water
1 pt. brandy

Boil 1/2 cup water and dissolve coffee. Combine sugar, 3 1/2 cups water and bring to rolling boil. Add coffee and let cool. Add brandy and vanilla beans. Makes 2 quarts. Age for 1 month in closed container. (The older it gets, the better!)

You can use the beans for anything calling for vanill, remember only use the seeds, if you soak the whole bean, make sure you scrape out the seeds and throw away the skin. They are much stronger than regular bottled vanilla, so be careful.
