I need to learn how to cook?!

Question: I need to learn how to cook?
Ok besides your basic mac&cheese, spaghetti, box dinners etc I don't really know how to cook? Totally clueless, I would ask my mother-in-law to help but her food is completely awful!!!
So I need a list of ingredients (basic stuff, preferably nothing I'm only gonna use once) and a receipt with full directions. If anyone could help me out it would be greatly appreciated!

Answers:

Start with something simple, like Sloppy Joes

Sloppy Joes

Ingredients

1 lb lean ground beef
? cup diced onion
? cup diced green pepper
1/2 cup catsup
1 tablespoon brown sugar
2 teaspoons vinegar
1 teaspoon prepared mustard
1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1 can chicken gumbo soup (undiluted)

Directions

Brown beef, onion and pepper until meat is browned and vegetables are softened.
Drain beef mixture. Add the remaining ingredients. Simmer over medium heat 10-15 minutes to combine flavors.
Spoon meat mixture onto buns and serve.

If you want to learn..then helping someone prepare a meal is the best way to do that...Also go to the library and check out some cook books..if you find one that you like.. go to a book store and buy it...Don't just start buying things for your kitchen until you know what it is you will need..

Spices are expensive...so is everything else for that matter..Choose wisely...start small and build from there...If you go out and buy a list of things..you may find you won't use all of them and wasted your money...

I cook all the time.....I have a few spices and some tomato sauce on hand...I like fresh ingredients...And once you get to this point you will also...

I wish you all the luck...cooking is a joy...find someone you can shadow in the kitchen..really..it will help.......

Hi Vanessa....

My BEST advice is to go get a Betty Crocker beginners (or basic) cookbook. Years ago (yeah... I'm an old dinosaur) EVERY young person got one when they left home, started college or got married. So... if you don't have one go get one like this. ( http://www.amazon.com/Betty-Crockers-Coo… )

These cookbooks are full of the basics. Then.. just learn how to follow the steps in a recipe. If you can read.. .you CAN be a cook. Think of what you like to eat... and try a few recipes that will suit your tastes.

Here's a list I snagged off the internet. You don't need to go out and buy all of this at once.. just build up as you need it.

If you truly don't know anything about basic cooking from scratch, go to a large book store and look for a cook book for children. Start simple. The next step up would be a basic cookbook that will also begin with the basics explaining each process along the way - not only what you are doing but why as well.

The Betty Crocker cook book was the one I began with and still use it today, 50 yrs later. One of the simplest things to cook is a beef roast and the internet is full of simple recipes.

Check with your library or the local community college and see if either offers basic cooking classes. You can get a beginner cookbook and just follow it's directions. Don't worry about mistakes....sometimes they are still edible. Always a good laugh when they're not. I keep one old (failed)recipe in my box....when I want to go out and not cook....I tell the fam that is what's for supper. Nobody wants what they call "Turkey Ambush".

But some basic cook books.

Go to a book store and look for some with simple recipes.

I like cooking vegetables with chicken or beef.
Tomatoes, onions, garlic, cilantro, zucchini, peppers, jalapenos.

Put them in a pot. A little olive oil. Put heat on low. Can put in a crock pot also.

Simple.

So you love to cook,I went to a friends house, she has always loved cooking. Now she has so many recipes and cooks so awesome,I stood on my vacation every night was a different recipe. She said he puchased a cooking guide online, well it worked for her, maybe it can help you make more things if you have the desire to cook.
