Can you soften butter in the oven?!

Question: Can you soften butter in the oven?
Alright, I'm trying to make cupcakes for my friend's birthday. The buttercream icing i am making requires softened butter. Heres the problem: my mom got rid of our microwave and refuses to get another one because it "is unhealthy and causes cancer". So I was wondering if you can soften butter in the regular oven rather than a microwave.

Answers:

yes but soften in a pan on the hob,on a low heat and watch it then cool slightly before you add to the mixture

O. M. G. - - ! !
have you never heard of room temperature - you don't need a lot of heat to soften butter
Even a M/W will separate the oils
Use Butter Flavored Crisco- ! !

"is unhealthy and causes cancer". - - ask her to prove it
she is relying on false information THAT was told to her by some radical
? ? ?

i wouldnt
the outside will be melting while the inside will be the same
just leave it out at room temp for a few hours
it will be just right to use for buttercream

You can leave it out to soften...but if you are in a hurry..put is a small sauce pan on simmer...
