What is a biscuit in America?!

Question: What is a biscuit in America?
We have biscuits in U.K. which are made from a sweet dough rolled thin and baked until quite crisp. They can be plain or flavoured in many ways and we tend to eat them with a cup of tea or coffee as a snack, but I think you in the U.S. would call the same product a cookie.

However, I've heard Americans refer to biscuits so am wondering what they are. What are they made of and with what would you eat them?

I've also heard Americans refer to crackers and wonder if they are also a totally different product. Here, a cracker would still come in the range of our biscuits but they are very light and crisp with air bubbles in and we usually eat them with butter and/or cheese.

Answers:

crackers are flat and very dry and usually lightly salted. they are enjoyed with usually cheese/meat and also put into soups

for biscuits they are layered dough that is cut into circle then baked resulting in fluffy but yet kinda firm bread. they are usually eaten during dinner, before actually food is ordered or eaten, with some butter.

I actually looked it up.

A cracker is a cracker, same on either side of the pond.
A British biscuit is an American cookie.
An American biscuit is a British scone.

However, a biscuit in America is usually served with something savoury so while the recipe is similar to that of a scone it is used more like a savoury muffin.

Yeah we would call a buscuit a cookie and it depends on the people we eat them soft or hard but everyone eats them different ways.
A buscuit here is a dough usually made crisp on outside and soft n fluffy in the middle which in America we use for different things such as breakfast, dinner, and we even make them in certain meals like casserols or sweet break a.k.a MonkeyBread.
And crackers here from the way you discribe them sound the same. We top ours with anything around haha. And we use them for soups and appitizers as well.

:)

Crackers are the same. If you want to know about American biscuits, go to www.pillsbury.com. They made the best biscuits.

a biscut in america is pretty much just a dinner roll.
