how do you make peanut butter cup topping?!

Question: How do you make peanut butter cup topping?
I am looking for a way to make a peanut butter cup ice cream topping like what you put on top of ice cream. It is usually ground up and in chunks and pieces. I tried this with one and it was very soft and mushy. I was not sure if I had to put it in the fridge or freezer before chopping. I am pregnant and tired of paying for expensive ice cream when I can make it at home :)

If you want more of a candy topping on your ice cream then refrigerate the peanut butter cups for a couple of hours (just to ensure they are nice and firm but not frozen). Take them out of the refrigerator and carefully cut them into little pieces (I find that cutting in half then each half and half and each of those pieces in half and so forth, works to get a uniform crumble). Scatter the pieces on a plate lined with wax or parchment paper and pop them in the freezer until the are firm. If you make a lot, you can top your ice cream with as much as you like, then move any leftovers to an air-tight container or zip top bag and have peanut butter cup crumbles whenever you want them.
