Why are some atheists against abortion?!

Question: Why are some atheists against abortion?
If they don't believe in some magical book, what reason is there to be against a woman's freedom of choice?

Answers:

Some people still believe the baby has the right to live blah blah blah.

I'm not against a woman's freedom of choice.
But I would be a lot happier if we would educate women (and men) about responsible birth control, so they wouldn't have any need for abortions. Other than the few that result from rape, incest, or "accidents" with birth control, most abortions are the result of irresponsibility and ignorance. We could cut down on tons of those with a little education, and teaching some skills in critical thinking.

However, even though I'm all for reducing the number of abortions by education, I'm not arrogant enough to think that I have a right to tell women what to do. It's their choice, not mine.

Peace.

Many atheists think killing a human fetus [which scientifically is 100% human] is perfectly fine. Some atheists do believe that human life has special value in any form, even among those who are physically or mentally challenged..or even babies that are too small to see.
Abortion has nothing to do with a woman's rights. There are two people that a pregnant woman must consider, two 100% human beings. Murdering one for the convenience of the other is evil.

Some atheists might stand with the idea that a fetus is life from conception and therefore abortion is murder. Others might argue that it is a woman mutilating her body. It depends on the person, you should probably just ask the person, because we can only give you general answers here.

I believe in a women's freedom of choice. She choose to have sex, she chose to try to create baby. Therefore to kill that baby would be nothing short of legalized murder.

PLEASE NOTE: This is only referring to abortion as a method of birth control ONLY

There are even atheists and agnostics who believe in the right to life for unborn children. Its not just a religious issue but an issue over the rights of the unborn. Religion while playing a key role is not the only factor.

They think an embryo/fetus is a human deserving of rights. I give them credit for being against abortion for that reason and not being against it because of religion.

I'm not against abortion, just sayin'.

The woman had a choice and she chose to have sex. If she becomes pregnant, then both she and the father should accept their responsibility for their actions. They created a life, it is not their right to take it away.

Do you realize that in the cancer world purple is the color of hope, so in fact your display picture is a "Hope-opotamus".

Just thought you'd like to know.

Because they still believe there is a right or wrong, aka they still have a sense of morality, which you do not need religion for.

It doesn't take a Christian, or a genius, to figure out that slaughtering your children is a BAD idea.

Abortion has nothing to do with religion.

They arrive to a similar ethical stance all by them selves without the fear of religion.

Just because a person does not beleive in God, does not mean he does not beleive in the right to life.

Of course some are against abortion. They are just not into making laws to prevent others from freedom of choice.

soem people see it as murder. you don't have to have a religion to be against murder.

It is biologically alive and human. I don't see how you couldn't be.
