How do i cook a cheap chicken?!

Question: How do i cook a cheap chicken?
I can only afford cheap chicken. I buy whole ones and fillet them myself, which is a lot cheaper than buying legs and breasts, etc. The trouble is they sometimes turn out a bit stringy and tough.
What is a good way to cook chicken so it turns out tender each time?

Answers:

Any cheap cuts of meat or poultry benifit from being cooked very slowly.
Make sure if you roast it to scoop the juices and pour over the meat to keep it moist.
try a slow cooker

here r a couple of the easiest but best recipes my family just LOVES.

pre-heat over to 350

put chicken in baking pan and smother with italian dressing for extra flavor sprinkle parmesan cheese on top. YUMMY cover tightly with foil,
throw it in oven for about 2 1/2 hours and u have your self a delicious meal the chicken just falls apart when u touch it with a fork. enjoy

now if u want the same delicious meal that falls apart when u touch it with the fork do all the same steps above but instead of smothering in italian smother with a bottle of bar b que sauce. cover and cook 2 1/2 hours and tah dah dinner is served and your family will be happy

Bake it , fry it roast it. If I buy a whole chicken, I usually roast it whole in the oven. Preheat the oven to 450. Season the chicken with pepper and a little salt. You could always tuck in some garlic under the skin. Put the chicken in the oven and cook for 20 minutes. Turn down the heat to 325. Loosely cover the chicken and continue roasting for about 2 hours. Remove from the oven and let chicken set for about 20 minutes. Delicious!

Try Irish chicken stew. Cooking is very economical. There are plenty of Irish stew recipes on the internet. Just google them. You cook it all in the one pot or saucepan. No need for two or three saucepans.

Your basic ingredients for an Irish chicken stew should be bite size pieces of chicken, water, your choice of chopped vegetables, your choice of flavouring and your choice of stock or soup packet or dairy cream.
The Irish are always making stews and children come home from school for dinner, all looking forward to the stews.
Your choice of chopped vegetables can be onions, carrots, mushrooms, potatoes - that's basically about it. You can add celery if you like.

Some Irish cook their stew in the casserole in the oven - or in the big saucepan over the cooker ring.

In the casserole dish, you throw the whole lot in and place that into oven.

If you wish to shorten the cooking time, you cook over the ring. First, you can stir-fry the meat in the large saucepan - just fry them with butter/oil. You can do this with cubed lamb or beef. Chicken legs, not really, unless you can cook them longer.
Fry the meat, next the onions and mushrooms. That done, throw in all the remaining ingredients: the chopped potatoes, carrots, stock or water & soup powder and all the rest.
Cook at medium heat. Cook until potatoes are cooked.

Google for chicken stews. There's Japanese chicken stews, Indian chicken stews, etc.

Meals on the budget

buying a whole chicken and portioning it yourself does not make the chicken a cheap cut, but an economical buy.
if it is turning out 'stringy and tough' you may be cooking your chicken too long.

fillet chicken takes 5 minutes to cook. time yourself when cooking, it will improve the quality.

bobbly flay said that on the food network yesterday in 'boy meets grill'

depending on the chicken you might be buying a boiler which means you make chicken soup out ot it . you can try cooking the chicken very slowly on the stove with little water watch that it doesnt burn add a few stck cubes to the water or you can roast in the oven in oven bags or if you dont have bags try alfoil and place a few peeled onions with it it helps togive taste

Just a regular whole chicken? Leave it whole and bake it in the oven on a low temp or a long time. Use can use it's own drippings to dribble back onto it as it cooks-I cook them that way often. Then you can take apart the leftover and save/freeze/reuse as needed.

Always cook cheaper cuts of any meats on a lower temp and for a longer time. You can use a slow cooker, bake them, braise them, and stew them. Any of these methods will help. Good luck.

You can always raise your own chickens, not only is it fun and gives you a pet for a bit, when you lose interest you can eat your little buddy.
