why did my pot melt on the stove?!


Question: Why did my pot melt on the stove?
my roomate was cooking with one of my pots. she had water in it and it was boiling on the stove. all of a sudden the smoke detector went off and i came rushing out to find her a little freaked out as the metal on the bottom of the pot had melted and was all over the stove. this is a copper bottom pot as well. could someone tell me what on earth happend?

It must have been a magnetic inductive cook top. On these stovetops you MUST use only steel pots as they become the heating element, the stove top does not heat but the pot does. If you use the wrong type of pot such as copper the pot will overheat ( like you found out ) and have huge problems.



the water boiled away and the pot overheated and the copper melted.

When cooking - stay in the kitchen - don't wander off to computer land or boob tube land.



the element and pot reacted badly as mentioned above but i really just am confirming there answer
