Does anyone else leave the 2 end slices of bread that have the crust on one side in the packaging?!

we called it the heel and I think they make the best toast.
We used to also save them for French toast or for bread pudding.
ckngbbbl...Is absolutely correct, they are called the heel of the bread. We usually leave the first one in the package (to keep the next slice fresh as we eat through the loaf), then when the rest of the loaf is eaten we (meaning "I", since no one else in my house would eat them, ever, under any circumstances) make a sandwich out of both heels at one time. They are particularly good when toasted and piled with peanut butter.
Until I went to university, I genuinely thought that eating the 'end bits' was bad for you! I'm not sure why, but my family has never eaten them. As a student I discovered that 'end bits' do indeed make great sandwiches (pb and jam especially), if only because they'll fill you up for the whole day!
You can also toast them a couple of times and blend them up into crumbs and use in loads of recipes.
The ends make great toast or a sandwich you would like on a bun rather than a slice of bread. I grew up in a family of 6 and anything that was a single or two got snapped up. We keep the top end in the bread package to keep the top slice moist and eat them at the end.
Sometimes I eat the top slice with peanut butter while the bread is real fresh...Most of the time I leave them until last and make toast...And once in a while I break up for the birds...
I never waste any bread...at least not on purpose...
I do that. lol. I have tried eating them before and they just don't taste good to me. I give them to my dogs or throw them out for the birds to eat so I don't waste them though.
Yeah I do it too... Unless I don't have anymore bread in the house and I'm reaaallly hungry then I'll eat the two "left-overs" :)
Yea unless im really hungry and those are the only ones left.
Sarah lee sour dough bread
I do not mind the crust but my parents sometimes feed them to the birds.
YESS that happens SO often in our household it's ridiculous, it's such a waste of bread but I hate eating them :)
Omg, I used to do this allllll the time. I don't anymore since I've started eating whole grain breads; I think it's much tastier now
Noooooooo! The ends make really good toast!
I do that all the time!
yes. we don't eat them we usually take them out for the birds.
I <3 to make toast and peanut butter with the end slices...soo crispy and good.
I love those 2 pieces of bread--my favorite.
