In what recipes do you use sun-dried, whole, crushed, or diced tomatoes?!
Answers:
It depends on the recipe as to whether or not you can substitute. Whole, crushed and diced tomatoes are all pretty similar consistency (as in they are watery and you can chop whole tomatoes to make diced and crush diced tomatoes to make crushed etc) sun-dried tomatoes are a different consistency and texture because they aren't usually in a sauce / juice (usually in oil) and are firmer - plus they have a stronger taste.
I like to use sun-dried tomatoes on pizza, with fetta and pesto in pasta, with crackers and cheese plates or on their own!
I usually use whole, crushed or diced tomatoes when making a sauce - say for pasta, stew or curry!
I like sun dried tomatoes on my pizza and when I make certain pasta dishes . Whole, and crushed, I use to make sauces with. And diced, I use for my meat and or veggie casseroles.
I don't think you can use the sun dried tomatoes as a sub, because they have a different flavor and texture. The others, I think would be of personal preference
I have made pasta sauce with all of the above. Last week I used sun-dried tomatoes and pine nuts to make the sauce. I've used both crushed and diced tomatoes to make chili.
