Can you substitute olive oil for vegetable oil in a cookie recipe?!

Question: Can you substitute olive oil for vegetable oil in a cookie recipe?
I bought a Betty Crocker's cookie mix box to try out but it says you've got to add 50 ml of vegetable oil. Unfortunately I only have olive oil and I was wondering whether olive oil would alter the taste of the cookies?

Thank you!

Answers:

I definitely agree with California girl. It will alter the taste. First choice for a substitute would be the butter, and then the olive oil.

Never use margarine. Never. It has no value, no taste and no benefit, other than greasing stuck dresser drawers.

Second thing that will really help is to set the eggs out 15 minutes so they are room temperature. All the best chefs know this.

Lastly, always, always chill the dough at least 40 minutes. This and the room termperature eggs positively make a difference.

When ever you have cookies that are thin and flat, you always know they didn't chill the dough. !!!

I disagree...if you don't have vegetable oil, I suggest you just use melted margarine or butter. This will be better tasting.... Using olive oil can alter the sweetness / richness of the finished product.........

My husband used olive oil in a cake and let me say it did not rise properly. I think in cookies you'll be ok and won't taste the difference.

You can by all means use olive oil.

Just remember that olive oil doesn't have any nutrional value once you heat it up

No you won't notice the difference. it's just that olive oil is more expensive! I interchange them all the time.

yep
it wont make a difference at all!
hope this helps
