Question: What does broil mean a cook book?
Answers:

broil is when the heat is above the food. Like in your oven you can put it on broil. sometimes you have a drawer you can put it in or you can put it in the oven and set it on broil.

"broil
To cook food directly under or above the heat source. Food can be broiled in an oven, directly under the gas or electric heat source, or on a barbecue grill, directly over charcoal or other heat source."

On your stove your dial for the oven has a setting for broil...It means you are cooking with the food exposed to the heat directly. Broiling is often used for meats and poultry, and in most ovens, the broiling section is at the bottom of the oven in a gas stove and at the top for electric...

Hope this helps..............

there's a setting for it on your oven. Most of them have a knob or buttons that say Bake or Broil. The broil setting only turns on the heating element above the food and cooks it at a high temperature, usually 500 degrees. It's usually used to cook meat. Make sure you watch it cause it'll cook fast.

Super chi is correct. If you have an electric or convection oven the broiler is usually at the top of the oven. If you have a gas oven, the broiler is generally below the oven and there is a separate draw you pull out with a rack in it.

>>>Broil is when you turn to that setting on your oven. Only the top heating element will come on. Steaks are better broiled for example at a high temp. At a regular setting it bakes. When I turn my oven on to broil it goes to 500 degrees automatically. <<

Broiling is a form of grilling. Usually, meat is broiled using heat lamps and open grill thingies.
