so what's with artichokes?!

Question: So what's with artichokes?
ok-so i just had my first artichoke experience....so why do people go nuts about them..did I do something wrong? I know i cooked it right-but there wasn't much "meat" on the leaves until I got to the top ones...then the heart was just ok..not earth-shattering...i ate the leaves with melted butter, the heart- plain....did i get a dud of an artichoke? is there a way to pick a good one? do tell...tx!

Answers:

The good ones have tight leaves, all closed up - not coming away from the artichoke. I think you just don't really like artichokes! That's kind of all there is to them.... I love them with garlic butter and lemon. We just put a trash bag by the table and throw the leaves and the choke in while we're tearing in to them!

Artichokes are definitely one of those vegetables that are for people who like mild, subtle flavors and also like to play with their food! I think the reason I like artichokes so much is because my mom used to serve them as a "special treat" when I was growing up. We always had such fun pulling off the leaves & dipping them in butter. I happen to love artichokes but it may be more because of the memories associated with them than the flavor.

Oh I love artichokes...............but I use mayo...I think it is a thing..like either you love em or you don't..

And I don't think you got a dud..............that is the way they are...just a little meat on the leaves...but then you get to the heart of the matter and yummmmmmmm...

But like I said....love em or leave em....LOL

Have a great evening...............

I agree with some of the comments on here with artichokes you either love them or don't. I happen to LOVE artichokes and I eat them with mayo as well.

I never had artichokes before

I think they suck too! Nothing special about them... Don't think you got a dud!!;)
