Ever cooked boston baked beans in the crockpot ?!

Question: Ever cooked boston baked beans in the crockpot ?
I did a bit of researching because I want to adapt my mom's recipe for cooking in the crockpot because I can't spend a day watching the oven. There seems to be no clear concensus on what method works best. Should I :

soak overnight then cook for over 12-14 hours in the crock-pot
soak and pre-boil 15-30 minutes then cook 12 hours in the crockpot
don't soak and pre-boil 1 to 1 1/2 hours then cook 12 hours in the crockpot
don't soak and cook 12-16 hours in the crockpot

These seem to be the main recommendations I find in all the recipes. Which works ?

Answers:

I soak overnight any beans I cook....And when I make Boston baked beans I usually bake in the oven I like the beans browned...

So if you make in the crock pot..I would pre-boil for 30 minutes and then put in the crock pot........

Good luck..........

I Know some folks don't soak at all, but I always do. I read an article once that compared overnight soak to the quick soak method. The conclusion was that there was no significant difference in cooked quality of the beans.

My recommendation is to soak over night then do the 12 hour crockpot thing. Make sure you drain and rinse the soaked beans, helps get rid of the "toots".

on a personal note, Boston Baked beans are supposed to have a darkened crust that they get from being in the oven. I know you said you cannot watch the oven all day, but why do you feel you have to? Set and forget. let them bake all day. I'm not sure I would care for Boston Baked beans from a crockpot.

If you found 4 variations, probably all 4 work. I personally would preboil 30 mins. then crock pot.
