Can I use one of these vinegars instead of cider part 2?!

Question: Can I use one of these vinegars instead of cider part 2?
I'm a novice cook and I've a recipe that calls for cider vinegar but I only have white rice vinegar, red wine vinegar, and balsamic vinegar. I don't have a car and have no way of getting to the store. Can I use one of these instead?

It's for an apple asparagus chicken salad, located here: http://www.grouprecipes.com/1733/asparagus-apple-and-chicken-salad.html

What would you suggest?

Answers:

It sounds like a good recipe! I also would vote for the red wine vinegar. The balsamic would probably taste good too but it would give a brown tinge to the apples that would not be appealing. Best of luck!

I would use red wine.

White rice doesn't taste as strong as cider vinegar. I'm not sure how the balsamic would taste with the honey in the dressing, it might be a bit weird. Plus balsamic has a really distinctive taste that would overpower, if you use that one half the amount.

So red wine sounds your best bet !

you could use either the red wine vinegar or the balsamic. if you use the balsamic, i'd use a little less, cuz it's stronger flavoured.

Well different vinegars have different tastes...White vinegar could be a substitute..but you don't have that either...

I will say red wine vinegar...but it may alter the taste of the finished product..........

Good luck............

I would suggest the white rice or the red wine as a substitute. The balsamic would be too sweet and overpowering.

I would choose the rice vinegar. It will be more subtle than any of the others.
Good luck.

Experience.
