How old were you when you prepared your first meal? What did you cook and how did it turn out?!
Answers:
I grew up on a farm, my mom told me that I had to make dinner as she needed to go to town for parts, she had taken out pork chops, so I cooked them, boiled potatoes, creamed cucumbers, and sliced fresh tomatoes from the garden. I was always used to helping mom cook, but for some reason I hadn't really watched how she made pan gravy. So I did all the right things, but it tasted terrible, I had forgot something, so after tasting it, I knew I could not serve this to the family, so I gave it to the dog, it was so bad that the dog wouldn't even eat it. When mom got home I told her I didn't; know how to make gravy, the only thing missing was the salt and pepper !! I was 12 years old.
When I was very little I did learn to make pancakes on the griddle. It is so easy that it always turns out great.
My daughter, however, made a cold soup out of tap water, dried onions, and chocolate chips. It was awful, but I ate it anyway....but that was when she was only about 4, so oh well.
I was 7 or 8 and Santa brought me my first cookbook (Better Homes & Garden's Junior Cookbook) so I made Christmas breakfast. Basically, it was scrambled eggs but with paprika sprinkled on top, which I thought made it so very different! I'm sure we also had bacon or sausage along with toast and either juice or grapefruit. But it's the eggs we all remembered with my excitement!
