Apples also go brown so quickly and can taste grainy unless they are cooked. You could use applesauce that has been cooked for a smoothie and it would be nice with a bit of nutmeg and cinnamon and maybe a touch of hazelnut or walnut syrup. MMMMMM Probably too thick too. Their peelings would get stuck in your teeth too. Yoikes.
It's easier to peel a banana but I prefer the flavor of an apple for sweetener in a smoothie than banana. Banana also is high in potassium which is very healthy for you too.
Too many smoothies depend upon banana and it gets old when you pick up a pre-made smoothie and all you can taste is banana. Apples disappear in a smoothie as long as you have a good blender at home, meaning that they won't overpower other flavors.
Orange/carrot is a great smoothie and even better with a scoop of ice cream. Yes, it sounds awful but it is surprisingly good.

Smoothies are made by blending whole fruit, in contrast to fresh fruit juice which is made by extracting juices and leaving the pulp behind, This is what makes a smoothie so good for you nutritionally. Soft fruit is preferred because it gives a smooth pulp but to make this pulp drinkable, it needs a liquid base. This base is in fact quite often apple juice.
Apple tends not be used in smoothie because there are few varieties of apple both flavoursome yet soft enough to blend, Using whole apples will tend to turn your smoothie into a lumpie!
they CAN be used for smoothies. theyre actually good for you when you use them for that. i blend my apples even with the seeds, coz those contain nutrients too. i usually blend them with bananas and strawberries.
I don't know about the smoothie bars but I use apples almost every time I make a smoothie.
They are not used due to the hardness or an apple and it makes it almost impossible to blend.
i put apples in my smoothies all the time!!!

I'm not sure, but apple cider is actually the WHOLE apple blended up :)
I don't think they would blend too well... You could always use apple juice though!
