Basic Lasagna .... A.S.A.P please!?!

Question: Basic Lasagna .... A.S.A.P please!?
I made lasagna before with my sister but I don't actually remember how....

1. u put the pasta sheets in hot water to soften them? or just normal water?

2. I am going to make spinach with mushroom, shrimps and egg. do i need cheese in this bit of the receipe?

3. My sister made some sort of thick sauce - there was milk, flour and maybe other stuff - anyone know what this actually is?

4. Layers (only making one layer) - pasta sheet, spinach stuffing, place sauce and one more layer of pasta sauce and top with cheese?

5. What degree (celsius) and for how long?

Please help guyzz... thank u sooo muchhh (=

Answers:

1. Warm water is needed, it's made like pasta so to soften will require warm-hot (not too hot, you'll get burnt)

2. Cheese in that part would only be if you want it, the egg will be binding enough, only do it if you like the taste. Usually cheese is on top.

3. That's white sauce, look up an easy recipe. Usually melt butter, at flour slowly and cook, then gradually add milk. Gotta get the exact recipe for the measurements of each.

4. You can put the filling in the tray first, with the sheet on top, and then more filling etc., i usually make my lasagna like that, but what you've said is fine!! It will all taste the same.

5. The pasta will need to cook, if the shrimp is not cooked yet then this needs to be taken into consideration. I usually cook mine for about 1hr or so, the pasta sheet is the main thing to cook. about 180c should do it.

The first one is the recipe I use all the time, it includes a step by step video. The 2nd is a spinach version for you. hope these help

Ok here is how I would do it

soften the pasta sheets in hot water to partially cook them- at that stage if your ready to use them do so immediately or place in a owl of icy cold water to stop them cooking further and keep them separate until you need to use them.

Ok like the other post make a tomato sauce by softening an onion ( add salt it'll stop the onions colouring too much- just a pinch though), next add garlic and continue to cook for a minute, before adding the tinned tomatoes.

Let the tinned tomatoes simmer for a while- at this stage I add basil if you have it and some tomato puree to intensive the flavour- a family friend use to add a stock cube crumbled in and swore by it- experiment. when cooked turn off and prepare the white sauce

The béchamel sauce is a white sauce just like previous poster said make a roux with butter and flour until it forms a ball and then add a little bit of milk at a time stirring int well - this can be a little tedious but is the best way (type delia smith béchamel sauce into google for a complete recipe)

I personally and incorrectly (lol!) like my lasagna very cheesy so I would add lots of cheddar to my béchamel sauce, but not sure this would suit your shrimps.

throw your shrimp and mushrooms and spinach into your tomato sauce and the residual heat should start cooking/ wilting down your veg /shrimps

Get your dish smear a little of the white sauce along the bottom then place a layer of lasagna sheets followed by your tomato shrimp mixture sauce then place another layer of sheets and pour over the béchamel sauce.

cook for 30 -45 minutes on gas 4 (180C)

I would then personally sprinkle with cheese and grill for a crispy bubbling cheese top.

Hope that helps :)

Cooking lasagna is sort of like cooking two dishes - the meat (red) sauce, and the white sauce. Then both parts are combined in a dish between sheets of pasta, easy. Just follow these easy lasagna recipe easy steps:

Ingredients

1lb of ground beef

One white onion

A quarter of a red onion

3-4 cloves fresh garlic

400g tin of chopped tomatoes.

9 strips of uncooked Lasagne pasta

1 teaspoon of basil

1 tablespoon of oregano

Salt and pepper to taste

A generous helping of grated cheese

1) First things first, switch the oven on to 350°F (180°C, Gas Mark 4).

2) Start with the red sauce. Chop all the onion and garlic and brown off in a frying pan. Then add the ground beef and brown.

3) Add the tomatoes and stir.

4) Add the Orgeano, Basil, salt and pepper. At this point I would also add a dash of Worcester Sauce if you have any, or a dash of red wine.

5) While the meat sauce is simmering, start the white sauce. To do this melt a bit of butter in a sauce pan, then add flour to make a paste. Then very slowly start adding milk. The key is to add the milk very slowly, otherwise the sauce become lumpy. When you have mixed all the flour and milk, add cheese until it tastes nice and cheesy! A more detailed recipe for white sauce can be found here

6) Now layer the ingredients repeatedly, starting with the Meat Sauce, then the pasta, ending with the Bechamel Sauce.

7) Put it in the oven to cook for about 45 mins, or until nice and brown on top.

Serve with garlic bread and salad.

should be easy and delicious :)
