Is this still edible?!

Question: Is this still edible?
I froze ham pieces at christmas and I pulled them out to make split pea soup now. It was fully cooked and never defrosted and refrozen but it has ice crystals on it. Is it still ok to use? Thanks for any input as I dont like food poisoning.

You can't get food poisoning from freezer burn...Just cut away those pieces and the rest is ok to eat.................

Freezer burn is not a food safety risk. It appears as grayish-brown leathery spots on frozen food, and occurs when air reaches the food's surface and dries out the product. This can happen when food is not securely wrapped in air-tight packaging. Color changes result from chemical changes in the food's pigment. Although undesirable, freezer burn does not make the food unsafe. It merely causes dry spots in foods.

Go ahead and use the ham. It should be fine.

Ice crystals are normal. I do this myself...just rinse off the ice with COLD water. Proceed with recipe. It is totally safe and normal for the crystals to develop.

its just a little freezer burned

this just will affect the texture... but frozen, even for 3 months, should be completely safe to consume

Yes, thaw them out and dice them up and use them. The bones will made a great stock for the soup.

The ham is fine. Just wash it off. Next time blot the ham dry before freezing.

It might just be freezer burnt....?
