How can i bake with a top flame oven?!
Answers:
nina, on a gas stove/oven, when the flame is at the top only, usually that means it's set to "broil" and you won't be able to bake. Broil setting produces way too high a temperature for baking.
Check the controls. Most gas ovens have two knobs, one which has off/bake/broil, the other a lot of temperature markings starting with 250F or so, and a broil setting.
To bake, set one knob on Bake and the other knob on the temperature your recipe calls for.
Something just doesn't seem right. All ovens have to be able to bake, or it's not an oven. You can't even roast a turkey or any cut of meat if the flame is on top. There would be no way to bake or roast anything... ever, if the only source of heat is from the top. Is it a new oven? Perhaps you're just not familiar with it. On many gas stoves there's a 'drawer' with a smaller door for broiling, where there would be a top flame. Are you sure you're not looking at the broiler part of the oven? You shouldn't even be able to see the flame if you're baking.
Again, something just isn't right. You don't have an oven at all if the flame is on top.
