how can i perfect icing on cupcakes for a neater finish?!

Question: How can i perfect icing on cupcakes for a neater finish?
i made some icing for some fairy cakes for the first time today.
the finish look is very rustic, which is fair enough as their are for kids but how can i neaten them up?
i'd love to make them as gifts etc with nice deco.
Any tips? thanks

Answers:

YOu can use a freezr bag if you do not have a pastry bag. Put all of the frosting into the bag... Pushall of the frosting to one corner, snipe the corner and pipe onto cupcakes.

Happy cooking!

-You can make your own pastry bag by cutting off the corner of a small plastic bag.

Put the icing in the bag and squeeze icing on to your liking. it works really well!

if you have a pastry bag and tip just put stars to cover the top or
i use a knife dipped in water to smooth the tops
this is the way i was taught when i took a cake decorating class
i have been doing this for over 30 years

Use the back of a spoon and clean the spoon every time you lift it off the icing.

You should use a spoon instead of a knife, a knife can kind of rip up the top. Or use an icing bag

i would say the best is a icing bag . or back of the spoon. knives mess up the finish :)
