why do serving sizes on certain foods make no sense?!

Question: Why do serving sizes on certain foods make no sense?
example

cashews say 1 serving is 59 pieces or 1 ounce

i counted 59 pieces and it measure to 2 ounces in my measuring cup!

same thing with gold fish crackers, hopefully i did something wrong because i decided to eat the 59 pieces

Answers:

i think they mean by weight 2 oz not volume

thats because 1 ounce by weight and 1 ounce by measure is different.
cups measure volume(how much)
oounces measures weight( how much it weighs.
1 cup of rocks would weigh much more than 1 cup of feathers and yet you still have only 1 cup of each.
Same with your nuts.
Go with the number of cashew pieces and skip the cup measuring thing.

before you take any serving size or nutritional amounts into account. consider this........

The FDA allows for a 20%, that's right, 20% discrepancy in either direction for nutritional values and serving sizes, etc.

That potentioally is a 40% swing in amounts.

Kinda scary, don't you think??

God, I KNOW right? I got some microwavable pizza bites for $1 on sale... serving size is 4. There's only 6 in the whole container. I HATE that. So I can have one and a half servings. Who wants only HALF a serving? I don't want to eat the other two by themselves... grrr.

Put the pieces on a scale. You're trying to compare apples to oranges, or in this case, volume to weight. They are not equal

As to serving sizes, they have to pick something to measure to show nutritional data.

did you count only whole "pieces" or did you include all sizes of "pieces" in your measurement?

or they could have meant... 1 ounce in weight..not in volume

"serving size" is a big joke. if you only ate a serving of anything, you would starve to death.
