Is there another way I can sift powder Sugar without actually using a sifter?!

Question: Is there another way I can sift powder Sugar without actually using a sifter?
Im making a cake and the frosting needs sifted powdered sugar, but I found my sifter and its broken. Is there anything else I can use? Or does it even matter?

Answers:

Unless your powdered sugar is REALLY lumpy, you don't even need to sift it! I never do and I am a cake decorator.

This is going to sound strange,, but take a clean stocking, cut the foot off to about 8 inches, pour the sugar into it and hold it over the bowl and pat the sugar out.

I used this once to strain grape seeds from pulp to make jelly, so I guess it would work well with powder, too!

As long as your sifter has a screen in it and its just the sifting mechanism thats broken, use that. Just shake it back and forth over the cake.

I use a food strainer/colander for all the sifting anymore.
My sifter broke and I never replaced it because the
colander gets the job done very well.

I've never sifted anything in my life...

yeah, a mesh strainer works really well, also a whisk

Got a hand held cheese grater? Put it on it and...sift!-

do you have a handheld wire colander?
