Why does my brown rice always taste so bad..?!
Anyway thanks for your answers. I'm a not-so-bad cook for a guy, but could do with some awesome tips.
Answers:
get the water boiling first. When it's boiling add alittle salt, then half the amount of rice as you have water ( 8 cups of water, 4 cups of rice).
Add little dots of butter or oil to the surface of the water, and don't stir it, but bring the heat down to a low simmer, and cover with a lid.
Leave for 25 minutes, then come back take lid off and stir. It should be perfect rice.
If it needs a minute more- cover again and conintue.
When the rice is cooked, fluff it up and add a little butter.
Add some seasinings, whatever you like- I love some good curry spices- cumin, coriander, fenugreek , garlic, chili, ginger and turmeric with salt and black pepper- mixed together then mixed into the rice.
so for Chipotle rice, add some smoked jalapeno to the water for cooking it.
I use broth to cook rice in so it has more character! Try chicken or beef broth. you can get some with lower sodium than the bullion cubes. But you don't want it totally salt free or it is so totally nasty.
If using water, add just a pinch, the amount between fore finger and thumb, of salt before cooking.
You can use the seasoned salts too or lemon pepper or add herbs to the water. I prefer to add dried chopped chives and parsley with some lemon pepper and that pinch of salt. Sometimes it is celery salt.
You can always throw in your favorite bullion cube into the cooking water before covering it. If you want chipotles add the, and a bit of adobo sauce into the rice when it is finished cooking. Stir in your additions, cover and let sit for 5 minutes.
You can also sitr some chooped cilantro and green onions for added flavor.
2 methods: season as cooking or season after. I do both. First saute some veggies like onions and celery in alittle olive oil , then garlic and some herbs. Pour in stock not water. Rinse rice and strain add to hot liquid with some butter salt and pepper. Cook as directed 40-50 min don't peak. Turn off heat when done but don't open for 5 more minutes. Now saute up some meat and mushrooms ,make a gravy , add broccoli whatever you like, ...asian spices and shrimp...etc don't forget to season the veggies and meat, soy sauce, sesame oil a little ginger, more stock for sauce...
I'm not crazy about the flavor of brown rice. Really heavy and bland in my mind but some folks prefer it.
Cook the rice in stock instead of plain water, add some salt and pepper and garlic powder and some dried herbs you might have around. Maybe add some Parmesan cheese.
You could put a spoon full of chipolte or something spicy.
Man brown rice is terrible. It tastes aweful. That's its nature no matter how you cook. Brown rice is recommended for elderly and sick people because they need more nutritions and vitamins from unpolished rice.
My own experience of eating brown rice for 6 months.

Try adding salt & a bit of butter. Also, I often cook my rice in chicken or another flavor of broth.Rice really doesn't have much flavor on its own so you need to cook flavor into it.
a little salt or vinager would help, add it to the rice when you first put it in the pot to boil. enjoy.
I usually cook my rice in broth instead of water and then when it's done, I add some butter and whatever seasoning and sauteed veggies I like
