To be a good cook you need an affinity for food and then you can balance flavours. Nothing beats experience. Being a good cook is not the same as being a chef (chef is french for manager) it is a common misconception. Choosing fresh products to work with is a start but you still need to be able to put things together.

1: have decent organizational skills, such as confirming that ingredients and utensils are available prior to starting
2: have a sense of timing, so that the entree and side dishes are ready to be served at the same time
3: a sense of balance, so that too many of one food group and not enough of another are not planned or served



Care for peoples health, be creative, and hearty.
They need to have a passion for cooking, not just throwing ingredients together, and willing to help budding cooks to learn from their techniques.
They need to be cheerful and appealing too :)
