Question: Good dessert recipes?
i need a good dessert recipe for my cooking class at school, i will have about 70 minutes to cook it and it needs to be good because it is for an assessment, we are not suppose to make up the recipe our selves, so i'm not cheating Anything yum would be good, but it is a school thing so no alcohol or nuts.

White Velvet Cake II
Ingredients
1 1/2 cups butter, softened
1 1/2 cups white sugar
2 eggs
1 cup buttermilk
1 teaspoon baking soda
2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup butter flavored shortening
1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese
4 cups sifted confectioners' sugar
1 tablespoon milk
Directions
1.Preheat oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C). Grease and flour 2 round 8 inch pans. Sift the flour and salt together and set aside.
2.Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs and mix well. Dissolve baking soda in buttermilk. Alternately add flour and buttermilk, beginning and ending with the flour. Pour into two 8-inch pans.
3.Bake at 325 degrees F (165 degrees C) for about 30 minutes, or until toothpick inserted into cake comes out clean. Cool cake completely before icing.
4.To make the White Velvet Cream Cheese Icing: Beat shortening and cream cheese together. Gradually beat in confectioners sugar. Add milk until a frosting is formed. (Add more milk if necessary.)

here's a good sugar cookie recipe i look up
Makes 24 cookies
Ingredients

* 2/3 cup shortening
* 2/3 cup butter
* 1 1/2 cups white sugar
* 2 eggs
* 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
* 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
* 2 teaspoons baking powder
* 1 teaspoon salt
* 1/3 cup granulated sugar for decoration

Directions

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
2. In a medium bowl, cream together the butter, shortening and sugar. Stir in the eggs and vanilla. Combine the flour, baking powder and salt, stir into the creamed mixture until dough comes together. Roll dough into walnut sized balls and roll the balls in sugar. Place them on an unprepared cookie sheet about 2 inches apart.
3. Bake cookies 10 to 12 minutes in the preheated oven, until bottom is light brown. Remove from baking sheets to cool on wire racks.



Peach Cobbler( made in microwave)- 4 peaches, peeled and sliced ; 3 Tbs. sugar; 1 tsp. cinnamon; 2 cups yellow cake mix; one-fourth cup butter or margarine. - Arrange peach slices in a 8-inch square glass pan or a 9-inch Corning skillet. Sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon. Microwave 3 minutes. In a glass bowl, melt butter. Add cake mix. Blend well. Crumble over the peaches. Microwave 10 minutes, turning dish one-fourth turn every two minutes. Cool slightly. Serve with whipped cream or ice cream. Makes 6 to 8 servings.
