my sister gets from the store a box of strawberry cake mix and strawberry frosting and bananas. what she does is follow the recipe but uses half a banana for 1 egg, it is so good. she is not that good at cooking or decorating. but these are the best thing she has every made. she made it for a friend who is vegan.

they have some good recipes and tips.

For recipes-- I would just use a betty crocker/duncan heins boxed cake (they have instructions on the back for cupcakes, the baking time is just different) and I would amend the recipe to make it my own.
I made some really quick cupcakes for a friend's birthday the other night just that way.
Squeeze and strain juice from roughly 6 lemons for about 1/2 C more than the amount of water the recipe calls for.
Put dried lavender (not from potpourri, only from a source intended for consumption) in the lemon juice and allow to soak overnight. You can greatly increase the speed by heating the lemon juice, with the lavender in it, in the microwave, but this will decrease the lemon flavour.
Now simply follow the instructions on the box for making the cake. Strain the lavender out of the lemon juice (there will still be a couple of small specks-- that's fine) and use in place of the water that's called for. Also add a couple of tsp of vanilla extract. Otherwise just follow the directions and bake.
For icing you can use a very simple cream cheese frosting. Mix Philadelphia cream cheese (from a box, not a tub) with melted butter and sifted icing sugar in whatever combination tastes best to you. I like it not so much on the sweet side, but just enough that it doesn't taste cheesy. I also add vanilla extract and sometimes a little water that has steeped heavily with lavender to lighten the texture.

As for decoration. You can use fun tins like the backyard bugs pan from Nordicware, sold on Amazon that is great for Spring and has a matching beehive tin. Williams and Sonoma also has some great options. I've posted several below in sources.

I also love to use fresh edible flowers for decorating because it's so easy and always beautiful. Pansies are often not hard to find at a plant nursery no matter what time of year, but you can also ask them what else they might have with edible blooms. Of course people don't usually eat the flowers even if they are edible, so it's not absolutely necessary that they are. You can also make, or buy crystallized flowers. Sweetfields is a company that does this, and you can get them through their website or Amazon.

If you go for cookies then a cookie press, which is like a gun, will be easiest. Then a very simple recipe that would most likely come with the gun, some nice sanding sugars or natural India Tree dragrees/nonpareils will be perfect to finish it off. I've also included the links for those.

I really hope that helps!
