Can i use margarine instead of butter when making a cake glaze?!

Question: Can i use margarine instead of butter when making a cake glaze?
I am making a coffee flavored cake glaze to go over a cake i am making, its a simple glaze, just substituting coffee for the water, It calls for 1/4 cup butter, but i only have marg.. so, my question is, will it turn out the same? Will the consistency and flavor be good?

Answers:

Stacy, if you haven't got any butter then go ahead. The rule in baking is follow the recipe. With margarine, I am sorry it's not the same, and yes we have tried it.

You can BUT WAIT!!
It will be a thinner more runny texture UNLESS ess you have the sticks of margarine that are firm like real butter. The whipped tub type of margarine is really to soft but if it all you have use it just know it won't be the same. But still a good flavor & edible. Just runny :)

Yes you can i do that when i make my cakes i allways use margarine istead of butter when im making a cake- i just usually prefer it

the simple answer is no the marg will never taste as good as butter also the fat is different so not the same.

it would work but it will be slightly differnt

yes
