Question: How much butter milk should i use if the recipe calls for 3/4 buttermilk?
I am making cupcakes but i don't have buttermilk.

Answers:

if you dont have buttermilk...you can make it...1 cup regualr milk with 1 TBS. vinegar added let sit for 5 min and it will work just like buttermilk....your recipe calls for 3/4 cup ...hope this helps

The reason it is called buttermilk is because that is the milk that is left over after you make butter from the cream and milk. It is a very thin type of milk which you can use yogurt, sour cream, soured milk by adding vinegar to the milk and letting it stand for a a few minutes. You don't have to buy buttermilk just for the recipe

You can replace the buttermilk with "soured' milk. You do this by adding 1 Tbsp. of acid (either plain vinegar or lemon juice) to 1 cup of milk. To make 3/4 cup, I would put 2 1/4 tsp. of vinegar in a measuring cup and add enough milk to make 3/4 cup. This should work just as well as buttermilk.

Usually if a recipe calls for buttermilk that means the recipe needs an acid like buttermilk, vinegar and milk will work or so other liquid and baking powder or soda.

You can make your own buttermilk. Follow the directions Pinki sent you
