Pressure cooker / canner - what type of jars?!

Question: Pressure cooker / canner - what type of jars?
I am going to buy a pressure canner to store chicken in jars.

I looked online for jars and found some great ones but they cost almost $5 per jar! I can get them at wal-mart for about $1 each.

Are the less expensive jars not good enough for pressure-canning meat? Are they intended for jam, veggies etc instead?

Answers:

You can go ahead and use the ones in Walmart. They are made for canning anything you want to can, whether it's vegetables or meat.

use ball or kerr brand the ones at walmart ball or kerr are good just do not reuse things like mayo jars etc -- glass may break lids may not seal properly
here is a web site may help you http://www.canning-food-recipes.com/cann…

canned for years with mom grandma

Mason Jars. that is the brand name and they are dirt cheap at walmart or target or whatever store you find them in. i use the same jars regardless of whether i am canning tomatoes or chili.

use the jars at $1 each .. as long as they are canning jars.. remember that you need new lids ever time you can. do not reuse the lids.. happy canning

a canner

A canning jar is intended for canning period. Doesn't matter what you are canning or how you are canning it.
