Can I make meatloaf with ONLY meat, ketchup, tomato sauce and various spices?!

Question: Can I make meatloaf with ONLY meat, ketchup, tomato sauce and various spices?
I'm looking to find an Easy Meatloaf Recipe, however I'm only seeing recipes with 13-17 ingredients...I have, in house; diced tomatoes, ketchup, meat, tomato sauce and these spices: Basil, Black Pepper, Chili Powder, Crushed Red Pepper, Garlic Powder, Garlic Salt, Minced Onions, Oregano Leaves and Parsley Flakes. Does anyone have any idea as to what would be a good tasting Meatloaf meal with these ingredients?

Answers:

Yes, why not?

You don't need a ton of ingredients. Most of the stuff is for flavoring - if you don't like, don't use it, or substitute your own.

Meatloaf was originally created to stretch meat to feed more people which is why most recipes call for some sort of bread (bread crumbs, cubes of dried bread, etc.) You don't have to use bread at all.

I'd make a glaze for the meatloaf with the ketchup, tomato sauce, basil leaves (1 or 2) pinches of the chili and red pepper flakes, and some of the garlic salt. Stir that together and let simmer so it reduces and thickens a bit.

Mince the onions, but put them in a clean towel and wring out as must of the liquid as possible. Mix the onions, meat, garlic powder, black pepper together with your hands. Form into a loaf shape, and pop it into a loaf pan. If you don't have a loaf pan, you can do it on a cookie sheet. Or you can roll the meat out into a sheet and cut out fun little shapes, so each person has their own little meat loaf.

Cover the top of the meat with your tomato mixture, pop into the oven at 400 until the center reaches 160 with a meat thermometer. Put another coating of the tomato mixture on top and bake another few minutes. When you take the loaf out, sprinkle with the oregano and parsley. Slice & serve with any of the remaining tomato mixture.

Yes you can! Also add an egg to it for a binder. If you have saltine crackers you can add those too. Here is how i make mine.

2lbs ground beef
1 package saltines crackers crushed
1 egg
salt, pepper, garlic, onion powder, parsely flakes, to taste. You can add anything you like
a little ketsup.

mix everything together, place in either a loaf pan or a glass 13x9 baking dish. cover the top in a thin layer of ketsup and cover with foil. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for another 10 minutes or until top is brown and crunchy. Remove and let stand 5 minutes before serving.

Breadcrumbs and eggs are only a binder..... not really needed.

I use the meat, carrots, celery, diced tomatoes, garlic powder or the real thing, onion - the real thing, any left over veggies in the fridge (if you have them and want to get rid of them). Mix everything together, pour on 1 can of tomato sauce - bake. Ketchup in my house is used after it is cooked.....

You're going to need breadcrumbs and eggs.

Example - 1 pound hamburger is going to need 1 egg beaten with 2 tablespoons of milk and 1 cup of bread crumbs. Then you can add whatever spices you want. But this is a good base.

Here are some spices that go into mine.

Salt
ketchup
onions
garlic powder
Worcestershire sauce

Sure.
All you really need is the recipe on the box of Quaker oats.

You can keep the seasoning simple and go with salt, pepper and onion and you will still have a great meatloaf.
