What's a natural way to preserve food WITHOUT chemicals! It's hummus.?!

Question: What's a natural way to preserve food WITHOUT chemicals! It's hummus.?
What's a NATURAL way (something that I can buy at the store easily too) that I can put in my hummus? I need to preserve it longer, because it goes bad after 3-4 days.

Answers:

Is one of the ingredients in your recipe lemon juice? that should be doing the job, it naturally contains citric acid which is a food preservative. Use fresh lemons rather than bottled. You can also drizzle a tiny bit of olive oil before covering to refrigerate.

garlic has antimicrobial agents in it that help prevent the growth of bacteria or mold

cinnamon does too but i dont know if youd want that in your hummus
actually a lot of other spices can preserve food too

i just did a project on this subject

in the good old days they smoked the meat in a smoke house with a variety of herbs such as a heck of a lot of salt and pepper. :) look into this method and see if smoking it would be a possibility maybe over an open fire or conventional oven?

It depends on the foods, the most common ways to preserve them is to either, salt, pickle or caning, and freezing.

put it in the freezer

umm...

a fridge?

maybe an ice box...
