My family is getting Popeyes chicken. How can I make it better?!

Question: My family is getting Popeyes chicken. How can I make it better?
I want to start eating more healthily, but it is hard when I cannot get my own food ( I am 15 ) and prepare it in a healthy manner.

What can I do to make Popeye's Chicken ( which is incredibly bad for you with all of the saturated fats and whatnot ) more healthy? I cannot choose what is gotten ( a 10-12 piece chicken meal, spicy, possibly with onion rings and mashed potatoes ) and I cannot make a different meal, as my family considers that wasteful seeing as they just bought new food.

The food will be here in about 30/45 minutes and I would like to know something I can do to make this unhealthy meal healthy.

Answers:

Chicken:
take off bread (the brown stuff crunchy part), that contains a lot of fat. Your family might see this as wasteful,
get a paper tower (or napkin) and press it against the chicken to get rid of the grease,
only eat white meat breast (no drumsticks for you)

Mashed Potatoes:
Don't add gravy,
unless they already have gravy, then just don't eat the mashed potatoes,
and next time ask your family to make them separate (it has a lot of fat, and pork I think)

I hate to say this but the only way you will make it healthier is to remove the crispy, tasty, spicy skin and coating.
If you have some frozen veggies steam them quick and eat them in place of the sides they are getting. If you have a sweet potato or a regular potato microwave that rather than the mashed. Both are no fat and the sweet potato has higher fiber and more vitamins than the white.
If you have to have the mashed no gravy and just a spoon full. NO onion rings.
Good luck.

don't eat the breaded fried skin - that's the worse for you (but it is the tastiest)
i wouldn't suggest eating the onion rings or mashed potatoes and make some steamed broccoli or carrots or have a salad with the chicken

The only thing you can do is eat less than you normally would. There is no way to "decalorie" something.

Eat the chicken without the skin..have the mashed potatoes but not the onion rings and maybe make yourself some asparagus or salad???

eat moderately. Dont take triples

Good gosh, not even a salad to go with it? Hm... well I would say definitely go for the breast as it will be the healthiest piece you can eat. Then I would take the skin off, that's where all the fat is. Also, do not eat the onion rings as they are fried and have just a very small serving of mashed potatoes. Ask your parents if you can make a small salad... and express to them that you really want to lose weight. Sounds like this is not an important thing for them but if you tell them that it is very important to you, maybe next time they can get you something healthy.

My son who is now 17 has always been over weight. I always tried to make healthy food for him but he didn't want it. Finally, this year HE made the choice to get healthy and the minute he made it clear to me, I started cooking healthier for him... fish, veggies, etc. He's lost almost 30 pounds! Your parents need to support you in this because without their help, you won't have an easy time of it.

Good luck and GOOD FOR YOU! I'm proud that you want to do this as a teenager, it's not easy.
