Would chocolate frosting taste good on a red velvet cake?!

Question: Would chocolate frosting taste good on a red velvet cake?
I want to make a red velvet cake with black frosting

I've been doing some research, and most people recommend starting with a chocolate frosting if you want to make it black, because you don't have to add as much food coloring (and adding too much can make the frosting taste weird)

But would chocolate frosting taste good on red velvet? I usually see it with a cream cheese frosting

Answers:

An RV cake is merely choc cake w/ red food coloring, so yes, choc frosting should be fine on it.

However, black food coloring tastes like crap. If you put a bunch of that to make black icing, the cake will taste like crap. Just use choc. Maybe just use black icing for the writing or something small, so there's not much of it. There's a reason black icing is only an accent, not the overall icing color.

Why don't you still use the cream cheese frosting and then cover it with black fondant. I would still be black. Black food coloring is very messy to work with, but if that is what you would like you could make a chocolate cream cheese frosting which would still give a similar flavor to the original and color it black. Have fun baking and happy birthday to your boyfriend.

It's vary good with chocolate frosting! it's the best!!! so do it!
