After you cook a steak do you?!

Question: After you cook a steak do you?
cover it loosely with foil and let it "rest" for 5 minutes? I saw someone on a cooking program do that. I know letting a steak "rest" is good, but I have never covered it with foil. How about you?

Answers:

Yes I do this for the retaining juices thing and to keep it warm while I have a couple drinks...

The most important part, don't serve it right away. Let the steak "rest" for about 5 to 10 minutes depending on the thickness. This allows the juices to move back into the meat. Resting should be done in a place that is about room temperature and with only a loose covering over it.....

Hope this helps......................

It's a good idea to let it rest. If you cut it right away, all the juices drain out and the meat is dry and tough. Letting it rest 5 minutes allows the juices to be re-absorbed.

Covering it with tinfoil is only to help keep it warm during this time (and maybe to keep flies off it).

The real trick here is too ...
1 let the steak come to room temp
2 pat dry and season how you wish
3 cook to desired ...preferably in a cast iron pan, grill pan or grill
4 allow to rest, tented for 5-10 minutes before cutting into it
I ALWAYS do it, and never regretted it

Yes, you should let a steak rest. It redistributes the juices. If you cut into a steak right after it's cooked, the juices will run out. If you let it rest- it will be juicy the whole way through. Yes, you cover with foil just to help keep it warm.

Covering it in foil, just allows the steam to redistribute the juices back into the meat. It's a good idea, in that, hopefully your steak will be juicy and tender.

If your home is on the coolish-side you might want to tent the steak with foil to keep it warm, but 5 minutes of resting time shouldn't cool it off that much. Your choice

I always lay a piece of foil on top of the steak and put a clean kitchen towel on top of the foil for better insulation. It's not any bother at all.

>>That's just to keep the heat in, also a little more carry over cooking.<<<<

I cover it and let it rest because I like a warm juicy steak not a dry and cold one.

I agree with all above, but foil is kind of a pain in the a**. Maybe you have lid from a pot or Dutch oven that would be big enough

I would let it rest to retain juices. Foil optional.

All meats should rest before serving.

Covering it with foil keeps it hot...
