Why confine yourself to 0.5% of the world's countries and their cuisine rather than invest 5 bucks on a metric scale & measuring bowl?
I don't believe that you're "as dumb as they come dealing with measurements", but if you are, then all the more reason to ditch the complex incoherent US traditional units for the elegant simplicity of the SI metric system. The only thing complicated about metric is converting between US units.

you do not need a scale! but they do come in mighty handy for a lot of other things too. I have one to weigh wools and dyes.
look at the other side of your measuring cups and don't worry if it says liters or whatever. just use the measurements on the measuring cup. It works I promise!!!
I just bought a little triple size jigger glass with all kinds of measurements on it. Lovely little thing.
42 grams of peanut oil = 3 tsp
128 grams of flour = a little less than a cup
360 grams of fudge i don't know but i would say a cup because it is heavy
85 grams of maple syrup = 3 tsp and 1 ts
There are lots of websites that will do this for you. Cooks.com, and nigella.com are 2. Nigella is a British chef and there are conversion tables at the end of her recipes.
