Is coconut flavor the same as coconut extract?!


Question: Is coconut flavor the same as coconut extract?
I'm planning on making lip balm and want coconut flavor in the lip balm.

No. Coconut flavor could be a) an artificial flavor, such as a chemical that happens to taste a lot like coconut or b) a "natural" flavor, which is derived from a plant (like corn) and happens to taste a lot like coconut. If this thing you have had coconut in it, it would say extract, oil, etc.



coconut extract will be coconut flavored by definition but it probably won't taste like artificially flavored coconut candies



Basically, the extract is just more natural. I would go with that, and maybe add some coconut oil for extra conditioning



Almost, but always keep in mind that extract is a more pure hard flavor of the fruit.



I think I would use coconut oil instead of coconut extract in the lip balm.



I think if you're using it in a recipe, it would be close enough.
