Why is my oven suddenly much hotter than usual?!

Question: Why is my oven suddenly much hotter than usual?
I have an older oven from the 70s or 80s. It was working perfectly fine until a few days ago when I cooked granola at the same time and temperature I always cook it and it came out burnt to a crisp. I decided I must have made a mistake, but tonight I cooked pies, which I also always cook at a certain time and temperature and they were burnt as well. It is strange that it came on so suddenly and I don't know what to do because obviously it is cooking at a much higher temperature than it says and I won't know what temperature to cook my recopies at.

Could be your thermostat has burned out and needs replacement. Could also be it needs to be calibrated. Go to Youtube and look up Atticus 9799. They will show you how to calibrate it

Sometimes they just stop working the way they did. It happened to mine not to long ago. Unfortunately you may need to get a new one or you can try adjusting your recipes. I'm not sure though because I'm more familiar with more modern ovens.

You can buy an oven thermometer that sits inside the oven, which will show you what temperature it actually is. It may just be time to get a new one, though.
