Question: What is the best cooking time for a four-pound chicken?
despite following the recipe quite carefully, my roast chicken was raw and the joints were red and bloody. what the best cooking time for a four-pound chicken?

Depends on the temperature. 325oF about 1 1/2 hours, 400oF about one hour, unstuffed until it reaches an internal thigh temp of 160 (it'll continue heating to 165o) and let it rest 15 minutes before eating.

I never stuff my chicken or turkey because by the time the stuffing inside gets to 165o the chicken itself is around 200o and over done. Cook the stuffing outside the bird or 'chook' as it's called here in Australia!
