How long does it take to cook a t-bone steak?!

Question: How long does it take to cook a t-bone steak?
I need cooking times for medium and medium rare. Also, i'm cooking them on a grill pan in my house.

Answers:

I always cook my steaks on the grill and I cook them over a medium heat. I cook it for 4 min. flip it over...cook for 4 more min...flip it over (turn 1/2 turn so your grill marks will make a diamond pattern). Cook for 4 min...then flip one last time (again making sure your grill marks are forming a diamond pattern). Cook for the final 4 minutes. I usually cook steaks which are about 1 1/2 inch thick and cooking for this time gives me a medium steak.
The total cooking time is 16 minutes.

You dont cook steaks for time, but temp, as there are a ton of factors that will make this impossible to tell by time alone...

Get a good thermometer. Rare is 130, MR is 135.

IF you take the steak off at 130, it will be 135 by the time you let it rest and serve it.

There is a way to touch your palm by your thumb, and depending on the position of your thumb, you can feel what rare and Medium Rare feel like when you push down on the meat while its cooking, but that would be hard to teach to someone not professional, so yo have to go by temperature.

If you dont have a good thermometer, you need to get one, as it is the most important thing you can have for your kitchen.

Once the steaks are cooked, they need to rest. DO NOT cut into them right away, or the juices will run out, and your steaks will be dry..

Porterhouse(tbones) are not cheap!!!
