You could use icing to 'glue' it back together
Does it really matter that it broke? After all, most cakes are iced after they come out of the oven, so any fractures will be covered over. Just push the pieces back together the best you can and ice over them. If it is a top layer, then pin the broken pieces to the base layer with toothpicks. Then ice over it, and warn your guests to watch for the toothpicks. Then forget about it. Nobody will care if it is broken, because the object is to enjoy the cake for its taste, not its culinary beauty.
Try to make a little more batter, add one extra egg for some viscosity in the mix and bake it at a REALLY low temperature for a little longer than usual or until what color you wanted is reached such as: Flaky golden brown, burnt to a crisp etc;
Just a scenario put together in my head, so if it doesn't work sorry!
crumble it, fry up some apples, sliced, in butter and sugar, and add some instant oatmeal, and you have a delicious warm cake desert, and if you want to add whip topping that is even better..the apples have a better taste to if you fry them in an iron skillet.
Keep it broken. In my opinion those are the best kind. It's just going to get eaten anyway. Just have lots of frosting :) .
I don't know. I don't usually bake. But, I do keep my copy of "Repairing Food' in the house for moments like that.
